Cops Probe Hadi Over Statement On Batu Puteh
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang reportedly described Singapore’s history under British rule as marked by ‘deceit, ignorance, and greed’.
PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over his statement concerning the Batu Puteh sovereignty issue, which could cause public unrest.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said a report was lodged on Monday about the statement posted on Hadi’s X account, Bernama reported.
“Investigations are under way,” he said, adding that the case is being probed under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making a statement that could cause public alarm, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities and network service.
Razarudin said Hadi would be summoned soon to provide a statement.
In his post on X on Monday, Hadi described Singapore’s history under British rule as marked by “deceit, ignorance, and greed”.
He claimed this left Malay leaders and citizens vulnerable due to limited political awareness and a perception of politics as corrupt and deceitful.
The International Court of Justice awarded Middle Rocks to Malaysia, while the ownership of South Ledge, situated about 4km from Batu Puteh, was left for determination based on the delimitation of territorial waters.
Papagomo, Fahmi Reza also under investigation
Bernama also reported that police recorded a statement from blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, whose alter ego is believed to be Papagomo, over allegedly defamatory and insulting remarks targeting the IGP and the police force made in a video.
Razarudin said Wan Azri’s statement was taken at 3pm today at the Setapak police station, with 37 questions asked.
He also confirmed that police recorded a statement from graphic artist and activist Fahmi Reza over a graphic on newly appointed Sabah governor Musa Aman.
The artist is being investigated under the Sedition Act, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities, and Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace. - FMT
