Cops Not Ruling Out Revenge Gang Links As Causes Of Shooting Incident

GEORGE TOWN (Bernama): The shooting incident involving a 26-year-old factory forklift truck driver in front of an apartment in Taman Inderawasih, Perai, near here early Sunday (Oct 6) morning is believed to have been about revenge and possible gang links
Penang police chief Datuk T.Narenasagaran said on Monday (Oct 7) that police did not rule out the possibility that the incident also stemmed from territorial issues between the victim and another group selling drugs
"Based on preliminary investigations, the victim had a criminal record with two previous drug-related offences and we do not rule out the possibility of the shooting being caused by several factors including territorial issues, revenge and secret societies
"However, further investigations are still ongoing including getting more information from the victim to find out the true cause of the incident and the witnesses who saw the shooting," he told reporters here
In the incident at about 2.08am, the victim sustained serious injuries after being shot by an unidentified man
He said police arrested two men aged 26 and 29 who were present at the scene during the incident to assist investigations
"They were detained Sunday and are currently held under remand until Oct 9," he said.Narenasagaran said investigations found that the registration numbers of two vehicles, a Proton Waja and a Perodua Myvi, believed to be used by the suspects, were fake
"The victim is believed to have been shot with a revolver-type weapon as police did not find any bullet shells at the scene," he said
Narenasagaran was met after the "Penang Heart Safe with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM)" event and the presentation of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) equipment at the Penang Contingent Police Headquarters here. - Bernama
