Cops Looking For 20 Who Ran Riot At Funeral Home
Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat said they are investigating if the rioting is linked to a murder case in 2017. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Police are tracking down 20 people who rioted during a wake at a funeral home in Johor Bahru on Tuesday.
Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat said all 20 are believed to be part of a secret society.
According to Bernama, Kamarul said the riot had broken out at the wake of a man who was shot dead the day before at Taman Melodies in Johor Bahru. The deceased, who was in his 30s, had several criminal records.
“The next day, during the wake, a group of 20 individuals came and caused a ruckus at the funeral home,” he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters today.
He said police were investigating the shooting.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Asked if the incident was related to the murder of a man at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi in 2017, Kamarul said police were still investigating.
On Dec 17, 2017, a man in his 30s was stabbed to death after he was hit by a car driven by four men.
Separately, Kamarul said the police and the Johor state Islamic religious department (JAINJ) were looking for six members of the Suhaini Muhammad or Sihulk heretic group.
The six, believed to be in their 20s and 30s, had allegedly insulted Islam and Prophet Muhammad in a TikTok video recently.
“The individuals have been identified and action will be taken by the Bukit Aman classified crime investigation unit.
“My advice is for them to surrender to the police instead of letting the police come after them,” he said, adding that their faces were clearly visible in the video. - FMT
