Cops Facilitated Pn S Save Malaysia Rally No Untoward Incidents

Police said they facilitated the Perikatan Nasional-led “Save Malaysia” rally today where some 1,000 PN supporters marched from the Kampung Baru mosque and convened in the city centre.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid said all related actions were taken according to the law and there were no untoward incidents reported during the rally.
The rally lasted over an hour and ended at around 3.30pm outside the Sogo shopping complex.
“There were 16 people who gave their speeches [...] Police have taken all actions including to facilitate the rally,” said Allaudeen (above, centre).
Among PN leaders and activists who spoke were Bersatu’s Dr Afif Bahardin, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, and PAS Youth information chief Nazir Helmi.
Having negotiated with the police on organising the rally, PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal were not seen among the crowd today.
Meanwhile, Allaudeen confirmed the organisers failed to comply with requirements under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for a five-day notification along with related conditions.
“It is not just about sending a letter (to the police), and that’s considered enough,” he said.
He stressed conditions under the PAA will help police to facilitate any assembly, not only for organisers but other affected parties including those around the area.
“We will review after this to see what follow-up actions there are for us to take,” he said, when asked whether rally organisers will be called up by the police for investigation.
“We will call anyone who can assist in our investigations,” he said, revealing that 22 police reports were lodged against the rally today.
Meanwhile, Allaudeen also said they received a police report lodged by Tun Faisal in relation to “the rally’s theme” which was to recharge Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Although organisers branded the gathering as a Malaysia Day celebration, its main focus was to protest the granting of a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) to Zahid.
The rally’s two other main demands were for the independence of the attorney-general and MACC from executive interference as well as for the rule of law to be applied to all Malaysians. - Mkini
