Cops Completing Probe On Rape Case Involving Selangor Rep S Associates

Police are in the process of wrapping up their probe over rape allegations made by a 33-year-old victim against associates of Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim told Malaysiakini several unidentified suspects were arrested on Dec 6 last year, a day after the victim had lodged her police report.
The suspects were later released on police bail.
"On Dec 8, the complainant/victim lodged another police report to withdraw the case and did not want it to proceed to court.
"However, in January 2021, the complainant informed of her intention to proceed with the case," Azmi said when contacted today.
Azmi said police will submit their investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers and await further instructions.
One of the alleged offenders is a Perikatan Nasional component party division leader while the other is said to be a longtime associate of Hilman.
The victim's police report was brought to light by former Umno leader Lokman Adam.
Azmi said initial investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code for alleged rape found that the incident occurred at a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur where the victim was taken to in an intoxicated state at 1.30am on Dec 5.
"On Dec 5 at around 4.30am, the victim/complainant woke up and found herself alone in a naked state.
"The victim/complainant inspected the bathroom and found a condom in the trashcan. She did not know who had raped her," said Azmi, adding that she left the hotel and went to a hospital before lodging a police report at 9.30am the same morning.

The victim in her report said that the previous night, she had a birthday dinner followed by a karaoke session at the hotel with Hilman's associate, two other female friends and Hilman whom she claimed to be "going out with" at the time.
The victim said she was later informed that a PN division leader had joined their group for the karaoke session.
She further said she felt Hilman helping her walk and that her last memory before passing out was of one of his associate's face being allegedly on top of hers.
Malaysiakini has contacted Hilman and the two other men allegedly at the scene for their comments.
Azmi did not identify any of the alleged suspects but confirmed a celebration dinner had been held at the hotel and had started at around 8pm on Dec 4.
He did not respond to questions on whether an analysis was conducted on the condom retrieved from the hotel room's trashcan or whether the incident was linked to a viral, blurry CCTV recording that allegedly shows Hilman and two unidentified men walking into a hotel room with an unidentified woman.
On Monday, Hilman - who is political secretary to International Trade and Industry Minister Azmin Ali - had told Utusan Malaysia that a letter he purportedly wrote to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin denying the video was fake.
He, however, has not commented on whether the blurry video itself is fake or otherwise.  - Mkini
