Shahril Hamdan said he was unhappy with the way Chow defended the project, which he said could be debated on merit.
“But several of his statements seemed dismissive and he came off as slightly arrogant,” he said in a podcast with former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today.
Ads by KioskedShahril found fault with Chow over his response to a query by environmental NGO Sahabat Alam Malaysia on the 71 conditions set by the environment department.
He said Chow, who was reported to have said that the details could be found on the website, seemed to be indifferent to the project’s detractors.
“He needs to be more empathetic.”
Khairy agreed, adding that he found Chow to be quite dismissive in the matter.
He suggested that maybe Chow behaved in such a way because Pakatan Harapan (PH) had a landslide victory in the 14th general election (GE14) in May 2018.
“Being very dismissive (on this issue) may have an impact on the result of the upcoming state election.”
Ads by KioskedThe former Rembau MP went on to say that the environmental impact assessment (EIA) was a thousand pages long and very technical, which made it difficult for the layman to understand.
“As a chief minister he needs to engage the stakeholders to convince the residents and fishermen that the 71 conditions would be adhered to and the environment taken care of.”
Khairy added that the project needed to be explained properly as the opposition would harp on it. - FMT
