Chegubard Under Probe Over Rape Claim Against Minister S Son
Bersatu political activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588).
This is in relation to his allegations that a minister's son had “raped” a woman.
Chegubard revealed this to reporters outside the Brickfields district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
"I was summoned to Brickfields district police headquarters regarding the issue involving Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s son. I am being investigated under Section 233 of the CMA,” he said.
Section 233 of the CMA carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
What transpired
On Jan 7, Chegubard alleged that a minister’s son had raped a woman and initially announced plans to file a police report.
However, he later withdrew this intention on Jan 8, citing that the complainant had retracted her police report.
On Jan 14, police confirmed the authenticity of the marriage certificate belonging to the minister’s son and a woman, who are allegedly involved in a criminal intimidation case.
Razarudin HusainDespite this, Chegubard continued questioning the authorities’ handling of the matter.
In a social media post on Jan 29, he challenged Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain’s statement that the minister’s son and the woman were legally married and that their marriage certificate was valid.
ADSIssue being politicised
Chegubard expressed confusion over why he was being investigated, arguing that he had refrained from filing a police report once the complainant withdrew her allegations.
He suggested that the issue was being politicised ahead of the PKR election in May.
“I suspect this is all related to the PKR election this May. Everyone knows that (PKR president) Anwar Ibrahim is preparing Saifuddin to challenge (deputy president) Rafizi Ramli, and that is no secret.
“Then there are others, for example, Fahmi Fadzil, who seem capable. I wonder why Anwar didn’t pick him instead.
“So, all these political polemics have ultimately led to this case being exploited. I suspect and firmly believe that this case is being used by factions within PKR that are in conflict,” he said.
Abortion claims
The controversy first surfaced when the Telegram channel Edisi Siasat published a copy of a police report lodged by a woman who alleged that the minister’s son had forced her to undergo an abortion.
The complainant lodged the police report on Jan 1, and the case was investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which pertains to criminal intimidation.
The report, filed on Jan 1, also claimed that he had attempted to kick her in the stomach. The case was investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which covers criminal intimidation.
On Jan 11, Saifuddin stressed that his son is not above the law and that the investigation must be conducted fairly.
Previously, Razarudin stated that the investigation had been completed and submitted to the attorney-general for further action. - Mkini
