The victim, 26-year-old Ryan Cheah, said the kittens were of the British shorthair and munchkin breeds.
Cheah said he first met one of the suspects on Feb 10, when he came to his house on Chinese New Year day to buy a kitten.
“Several days later, the man contacted me again and told me that he was interested in buying another two kittens.
“He asked to meet me at a car park of a shopping mall in Bandar Utama on Feb 18,” he said, according to Berita Harian.
“However, I felt like something was off and instead asked to meet him at a bus stop near the shopping mall.
“I went to the bus stop with my girlfriend at about 7.30pm and we noticed that the buyer’s car was damaged, as if it had just been involved in an accident,” he added.
Cheah said that as soon as he entered the car, the buyer pulled out a knife and told him to transfer all his money into a given account.
“He then told his accomplice to take the two kittens from my girlfriend. My girlfriend, who did not know what was going on in the car, handed over the kittens,” he said.
Cheah said he then tried to escape by unlocking the car door but the buyer pulled out a parang and attacked him with it.
He said he was slashed on his right arm and right leg. He later sought treatment and received 36 stitches for his wounds.
The two suspects drove off with Cheah’s mobile phone and two kittens.
Petaling Jaya police chief Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid confirmed receiving a report over the incident.
“We have made arrests in connection with this case and will issue a statement on the matter soon,” he said. - FMT
