Carsome And Scrut Malaysia More Qualified Pas Man Pans Loke
PAS member Nurul Islam Mohammed Yusoff hit back at Transport Minister Anthony Loke after the latter criticised his detractors over his decision to appoint inexperienced companies to conduct motor vehicle inspections.
This comes after Loke justified it by saying there were no local companies with experience in vehicle inspection as Puspakom had previously monopolised the industry.
For starters, Nurul Islam urged the minister to read the guidelines set by the Transport Department and Road Transport Department.
He pointed out that the guidelines clearly mention that those appointed must possess experience in the related field.
“So, what does that mean? It means the companies need not necessarily be specifically involved in the vehicle inspection sector alone.
“They could be those who operate vehicle service centres, garages or used to run vehicle inspection centres.
“Based on the guidelines, companies such as Scrut Malaysia, MyTukar and even Carsome could qualify as they also provide similar services.
“Clearly, those mentioned have more experience than the eight-month-old company, construction firm and the information technology company Loke appointed,” he said on Facebook today.
Puspakom monopoly
Earlier today, Loke defended his decision saying there were no local companies with experience in vehicle inspection as Puspakom had previously monopolised the industry.
“Can you name one company with experience in vehicle inspections (apart from Puspakom)?
“There isn’t one because it was a monopoly. Why is no one questioning how Puspakom was established back then without prior experience?” he was reported as asking.

The companies appointed were Pakatan Petroleum Sdn Bhd, Beriman Gold Sdn Bhd and Wawasan Bintang Sdn Bhd.
Pakatan Petroleum and Beriman Gold were involved in business unrelated to automotive, while Wawasan Bintang listed inspection of motor vehicles as its business. However, it was only eight months old and had no public track record.
On that note, Nurul Islam said Loke gave a ludicrous statement after coming under pressure to justify his ministry’s decision.
“Enough with this, Loke. Stop trying to justify what is unjustifiable,” he added.
