Bukit Aman Takes Over Probe Into Melaka Triple Shooting

Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar (centre). - NSTP FILE PICKUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has taken over the investigation into the deaths of three men who were shot by police in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on Nov 24.
Federal CID director Datuk M. Kumar in a statement, said that a special team had been established to take full charge of the inquiry, including reviewing police reports lodged by the families of all three suspects.
He said that on Nov 24, Melaka police's CID had launched an investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code following an incident in which the three suspects, who had allegedly injured a policeman, were shot dead.
Kumar said that on Dec 3, the federal CID received a report from the families expressing dissatisfaction with the police actions during the incident.
"The CID takes this matter seriously and assures that the investigation will be conducted transparently, fairly, and professionally, in accordance with the law, to ensure justice is served," he said.
"In this regard, a special task force has been set up by Bukit Aman CID to take full control of the investigation, including reviewing the police reports submitted by the families of the three suspects."
Kumar also urged the public to refrain from speculation or the manipulation of facts that could compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
He advised anyone with information on the incident to contact Bukit Aman CID at 019-376 4763.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar had previously said that the three men were suspected members of "Geng Durian Tunggal" and had ambushed officers during Op Casa Melaka, slashing a police corporal on the arm.
Earlier today, the families of the three men called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to intervene and convene an urgent meeting with the Home Ministry, asserting that the incident warrants nothing less than a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI).
Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan said the severity of the evidence, including a 13-minute, 53-second audio recording capturing the moments leading up to the deaths, demands immediate action from the highest levels of government. - NST
