THE Chinese New Year is not only the time for children to receive money. Lately, full grown men are taking money too, but from reckless bus drivers who violate the traffic rules.
In a video post on X, a disguised Road Transport Department Services (JPJ) officer could be seen approaching a bus driver to deliver a good, long list of summons.
It was part of their operation during the Chinese New Year, to board a bus in disguise and monitor the actions of the driver.
The hapless driver in the video had to pay an estimated amount of RM700.
His crime? Driving while using a phone, not having a second driver for a destination further than 300 km or above four hours, and smoking.
The video has since received many positive responses from fellow netizens who praised the efforts of JPJ at making the roads a safer place.

Some netizens, however, said JPJ should be conducting such operations at all times, not only during celebrations.
According to netizen kamaghul deghaman, many departments are already resorting to disguises now.
Kahalili said it was wise that the disguised officer paid only RM40 for the ticket, and received RM750 in return, which was positive cash flow.

However, we would like to point out that the money is supposed to go into the government coffers, not the pocket of any officer.
“Shouldn’t the second driver be provided by the company,” said one netizen.

Echoing the thought was Cha, who said JPJ should issue a summons to the employer instead of the driver.
Farique Sher added that the officers should also check the bus tyres and more. Another netizen lamented the fact that the song playing in the video was a depressing one.
“It is strange that these drivers love to video call their children and wives when driving. Its like they haven’t met for two to three weeks,” said GeorgeMe.
“Can you check the Starmart bus? They don’t have a second driver for Kamunting to TBS which was around 4.5 hours. Even Kamunting to Pahang at about 6.5 hours, there was no second driver. I notice that it was always the same person driving, with the exception of the two storey bus,” said Jimin’s Ponytail.

Ymir subjects added that hopefully, JPJ would start monitoring the heavy vehicles too after the Chinese New Year celebration. — Focus Malaysia
