Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has ridiculed Umno Youth leader Dr Akmal Saleh for declaring, “See you in court,” over the altercation between a balloon vendor and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement personnel.
He contrasted Akmal’s approach with that of the “wise” Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Zaliha Mustafa, who resolved the temple relocation issue without resorting to legal action.
Tun Faisal (above) emphasised that court cases are a significant drain on both time and money. Instead, he proposed a direct resolution for the balloon seller, affectionately known as “Abang Belon.”
He urged Akmal to act like a responsible government official and resolve the matter swiftly, as the government has the power to do so.
“Why push Abang Belon into a lengthy and complicated court process? Umno Youth may have a lot of money to spend, but use your intelligence to solve problems in a smarter way - without costing Umno Youth much and without burdening Abang Belon.
“Have a proper discussion with the minister, Umno division heads who sit on the DBKL advisory board, and the mayor. If it's too difficult, go straight to the prime minister.
“That’s why if you don’t know how and are incapable of governing, you should all resign. Let those who are wiser take care of the people and the country,” he added.
Withdraw report
Tun Faisal stated that DBKL should withdraw its police report since video evidence clearly showed that Abang Belon did not act violently but was merely protecting his balloons from slipping out of his hands or being seized.

He suggested that DBKL conduct a “domestic inquiry” and take appropriate action against its errant personnel.
He asserted that DBKL must cover all medical expenses and related therapies for Abang Belon, preferably under the supervision of a specialist doctor.
“If there is any relevant enforcement insurance, he should be treated at a private hospital for faster treatment. Wait for the specialist’s decision at Serdang Hospital and take appropriate action immediately,” he added.
Tun Faisal also called on DBKL to compensate the vendor for damages to his belongings and loss of income due to his inability to work and sell balloons to support his livelihood.
“DBKL should also offer Abang Belon a ‘gift’ as a sign of regret and apology, such as a business license and a designated spot for him to operate, or even provide him with a PPR (low-cost housing) unit.
“They could waive the rent for a few years so he can have his own home in Kuala Lumpur,” he added.
Seek justice
Yesterday, Akmal posted a video call with Abang Belon on Facebook, expressing his dismay upon learning that the vendor had suffered injuries in the scuffle.
Vowing that Umno Youth would seek justice for the vendor, he added that the wing would cover his medical expenses.
