Bersatu Lodges Macc Report Over Ph Bn S Lavish Ge15 Spending

Bersatu has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against the “lavish” spending of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional during the recent general election (GE15).
(FMT) – Puchong Bersatu chief Shukor Mustaffa claimed there were indications that PH and BN had used a large number of posters and flags for their campaigns.
Shukor also claimed that Anwar Ibrahim, who is PH chairman and PKR president, had used a luxury helicopter during the election campaign.
“We hope that a comprehensive investigation by MACC can be carried out on both parties, especially against Anwar,” he said at a press conference outside MACC’s headquarters here.
“This report calls for immediate action by MACC,” he said, adding that the anti-graft agency should be independent and neutral.
Shukor also asked how Nurul Izzah could afford to work as senior adviser to Anwar on economics and finance without receiving any compensation or salary.
“Who funds them? Is there a tycoon backing the family?” he asked.
The report follows a call by Marzuki Mohamad, a former aide to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, to MACC to probe PKR and DAP over their GE15 expenditures, including the source of their funds.
Marzuki’s statement came after MACC froze Bersatu’s accounts, said to be linked to an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of billions of ringgit meant for Covid-19 stimulus packages.
Muhyiddin had denied that his government had misappropriated funds when he was the prime minister.
Shukor claimed various accusations had been hurled at Bersatu to create a negative perception of the party, especially with the state elections coming up.
He also claimed Bersatu was being punished “without any due process”, saying the party’s accounts were frozen even before MACC had completed its probe.
