Bersatu Is New Suffering Party Tun Faisal Jabs At Pkr
Newly appointed Bersatu information chief, Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, described his party as a “party of suffering” due to its relative youth compared to PKR, Umno, PAS, and DAP.
In a jab at PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, he said that because of Bersatu’s young age, it does not have ties with “big tycoons” like other parties.
“We’re not a party that mingles with big tycoons or rides helicopters,” he said when speaking to reporters at the Bersatu general assembly today.
Anwar has come under fire for using “jet and helicopter trips” to campaign, with Bersatu lodging a report with the MACC last year over alleged “lavish” spending during the 15th general election.
“Party of suffering” has been used to describe PKR’s beginnings in 1998 when its founder Anwar was sacked from the deputy prime minister’s post and imprisoned.
Tun Faisal, a former Umno leader and Special Affairs Department (Jasa) director, was appointed as the new Bersatu information chief during a special meeting of the party’s supreme leadership council, chaired by party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Vision as new info chief
Meanwhile, Tun Faisal said he is determined to build momentum for change despite the challenges of leading the party’s communication efforts.
“When I became the information chief, I felt the need to pick up from where things left off, especially since we are now in the opposition,” he said.
He highlighted the differences in communication strategies between being in government and opposition, especially under the current administration, which he claimed used the law to suppress critics.
“It’s not an easy task, particularly when the government today is using laws… against those who criticise them. But the mood on the ground shows many people want a change.
“Previously, they felt helpless, like they couldn’t do anything. Now, after the party election, we have new leadership and better individuals who can make a difference across various platforms, from state assemblies to Parliament,” he said.
Tun Faisal emphasised the importance of capitalising on this momentum of support.
“We need to leverage our strengths and improve,” he added. - Mkini
