Beliawanis Mca Stabbing Incident In Bandar Utama School A Wake Up Call For Moe
BELIAWANIS MCA has called for the Education Ministry (MOE) to take the stabbing incident that claimed the life of a female student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya seriously and to that, commit to prioritising student safety and emotional wellbeing.
In the tragic incident on Tuesday (Oct 14) morning, a 16-year-old female student was fatally stabbed by a male classmate in or near the girls’ toilet of SMK Bandar Utama 4.
The incident occurred at around 9.30am. The suspect, a 14-year-old male student, was reportedly armed with a knife.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the grieving family, friends, and school community mourning this unimaginable loss.
“No parent should ever have to receive such devastating news about their child—especially not from a place that is meant to be a safe haven for learning and growth,” said its chairperson Ivone Low Yi Wen.
The tragedy comes at a time when public concern about student safety is at an all-time high.
Recall that just last week, four teenage students sitting for the SPM examination next month have been remanded for six days for police investigations after allegedly raping a female student in a school in Alor Gajah, Melaka last week.
The suspects allegedly committed the offence on the 15-year-old victim at about 2.50pm on Oct 2 while she was headed to her classroom to collect something she had left behind.
Two of the suspects reportedly watched and recorded the incident with their handphones, and the videos they took were later circulated online.
“Beliawanis MCA strongly condemns all forms of violence, particularly within schools. These institutions must be environments where children are protected, nurtured, and guided, not harmed,” said Low.
“We are also concerned and bewildered as to how a student was able to bring a dangerous item into the school. This raises urgent questions about current safety protocols and the need for stricter preventive measures.
“At this difficult time, we gently urge the public to of the incident out of respect for the victim and her loved ones.”
She further urged the public to give the authorities the space they need to carry out a full and fair investigation, and allow the family the privacy they deserve as they grieve.
“We also call on the MOE to introduce mechanisms to identify and support students who may be struggling emotionally or have behavioural issues,” she stated.
“More than that, we believe it is time to prioritise—to nurture empathy, compassion, and tolerance—from a young age. These values are just as vital as academic success in shaping a safer and more caring generation.
“This tragedy must be a turning point. We urge the government, especially the MOE, to take this moment seriously and commit to that prioritise student safety and emotional well-being.
“Society can ill-afford to have another life violated and even worse, lost before we act.” ‒ Focus Malaysia
