Bruce Willis
(Reuters) – “Live Free or Die Hard” actor Bruce Willis has sued a Malaysian prince and his company over a $2 million investment in “green rubber” the actor wants returned.
Prince Imran Ibni Tuanku Ja’afar and Datuk Vinod B. Sekhar, principals of environmental technology company The Petra Group, have repaid Willis $1.1 million of the original amount.
But Willis said the pair have falsely claimed to have wired $900,000 they still owe him and made “specious excuses” about when it would be returned, according to the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles and made public on Friday.
The actor said he was induced to invest in the recycled rubber compound because he believed former Vice President Al Gore, actor Mel Gibson and “Braveheart” director Bruce Davey had invested “substantial sums” in the company.
Sekhar said Willis stood to make “a huge profit” in an initial public offering of Petra subsidiary Elastomer Technologies, which had been set for the third quarter of 2008, the suit said.
Sekhar, Ja’afar and The Petra Group would guarantee Willis’ investment and give him a put option that allowed him to withdraw his money, the lawsuit said.
But when Willis tried to take his money out of the company nearly a year later — with no IPO in sight — Sekhar and Ja’afar refused to return it, the suit said.
A Petra Group spokesman could not be reached for comment.
Willis claims damages of $900,000 plus 10 percent annual interest.

Vinod Balachandra Sekhar is a controversial figure and known con-man who has been sued by many of his associates and friends for not fulfilling his promises.
Particularly when money has been taken and the promised shares for his Green Rubber technology was not made. Aren’t many of us suckers over jargons of all things green and digital, as if they are magic wand to make mountains of money.
Now Vinod, the undischarged bankrupt, has begun to tell people that those who wish to do business deals with the PM-in-waiting, Anwar Ibrahim, must go through him.
Con-man Anwar and con-man Vinod, a perfect pair
He has also set up a pro-Anwar Ibrahim news website, “The Vibes”, ahead of the 15th general election.
The staff includes journalists turned paid bloggers and mercenaries with little credibility in town.
Then there is a Gunasegaran, the consultant editor, who has joined every media in town.
Well, birds of the same feathers flock together.
Vinod is now flush with cash and has set up a news portal with no business plan. It is bizarre. Perhaps he knows something we don’t or he has a plot.
But as with all con-men like Jho Low, some investments are necessary to create a buzz and be noticed.
Vinod has recently bought a San Merino registered private jet for US$8 million and has become its 10th owner of the jet.
Vinod has been circulating the fake list of 121 MPs who are alleged to be supporting Anwar as PM9
It has been used to ferry Anwar Ibrahim recently to Sabah during the state election campaign as well as his colleagues from Vibes. It’s no secret since his guests have proudly posted their pictures of their privilege on social media rubbing shoulders with Vinod and other celebrities.
Little Birds said that Vinod splashed RM1 million on fireworks and on his guests who were flown to Sabah. All-expenses-paid trip included accommodation at a five-star hotel.
Plenty of expensive wine and whiskey were served to impress the guests.
The guests included his BFF Datuk Hans Issac whom Vinod is lobbying to be the PKR candidate in Ampang. Well, now you know why Hans Isaac has been busy in Ampang of late. The incumbent MP is Bersatu’s Zuraida Kamaruddin. Hans Isaac is certainly better looking than her for sure.
There are plenty of Bad Vibes about this portal and more will be revealed about the owner and those working for this outfit.
As a recap, we are listing here the numerous past cases involving Vinod for those who do not know this serial conman.
The Bankrupt and Conman Behind News Portal “The Vibes”
As recent as August 23, 2019 court bailiffs sought to arrest rubber industry figure Vinod Sekhar who has allegedly conned an Irishman of US$108,000 (about RM449,000).
The Irish man, John Slattery, filed a civil suit against Sekhar claiming he paid the US$108,000 to Sekhar in 2017 as an investment in Green Rubber Sdn Bhd, a company which Sekhar was chairperson and founder.

According to Slattery’s lawyer Colin Pereira, who sued Sekhar for breach of a contract, neither the judgment debtor nor his family were at home when the court bailiff arrived to arrest him this morning.
Court bailiffs had on Aug 7 raided the house of rubber industry figure Vinod Sekhar in Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur and allegedly seized valuables worth RM150,000.
It was reported that Sekhar had promised the Irishman many positions in three companies including as executive director in Green Rubber Sdn Bhd and as senior vice-president of strategic development in Sekhar’s well-known Petra Group. Sekhar is chairman of Petra Group and also the company’s chief executive officer.
“During the interview for these posts, Sekhar had offered my client the opportunity to invest in Green Rubber. He had represented to my client that he was a famous corporate figure and that his father was a prominent figure in the rubber industry.

“However, according to my client, he never mentioned that he was bankrupt.
“My client had then agreed to invest in the company and transferred the sum into Sekhar’s personal bank account on May 16, 2017. However, to date, no shares had been transferred to my client,” the lawyer told the media.
Prolific Scammer conned Hollywood and The White House
It was not the first con incident for Vinod as back in 2008, Hollywood Actor Bruce Willis sued Malaysia’s Petra Group and its chairman, Tunku Imran Ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, alleging that US$900,000 of the US$2 million he invested in a “green rubber” venture wasn’t returned to him.
A Bloomberg report said that Petra’s chief executive officer, Datuk Vinod B. Sekhar, and Tunku Imram had allegedly induced Willis in 2007 to invest in a company that was developing a non-toxic and recyclable rubber, the actor said in a complaint filed in federal court in Los Angeles. Former US Vice President Al Gore and actor Mel Gibson had also invested in the company, Elastomer Technologies Ltd., according to the complaint.
Scottish university’s £8m ‘donor’ faces jail
It was meant to be the biggest donation ever made to a Scottish university, a philanthropic gesture that would signify a new era of partnership between Scotland and Malaysia. Yet many years later, Vinod Sekhar who pledged £8 million to the University of St Andrews for a new medical school has yet to hand over a single penny and faced jail after violating bankruptcy conditions.
So there we have it, a seasoned conman who has gone under the radar and is now trying his best to be back in the game. Only God knows what he is planning and scheming with his portal “The Vibes” as we all know the only “vibes” he gives off are those that reek of “bullshit”. Talk about The Bad Vibes!
