Baling Flood Victim Being Probed For Attending Muda Rally

A flood victim from Baling, Kedah, who attended Muda’s rally last Saturday (Sept 24) to protest the 15th general election being called this year was questioned at the Dang Wangi district police station in Kuala Lumpur.
He was among nine individuals questioned for about two hours this afternoon.
Asri Balkis, 48, told reporters he came to the capital that day to meet Muda president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman at the Sogo shopping complex and hand over a memorandum highlighting the plight of Baling flood victims.
“I came to hand over the memorandum because I want the voices of people in Baling to be heard in Parliament.
“The main issue here is that we still feel unsafe... I did not expect to be called up today, although the police did contact me (on Saturday) while I was on the way back to Kedah,” he said.
Asri (above), who works as a nasi lemak seller, said his family home in Kg Iboi, Baling, was among those hit by a series of recurring floods since June, the worst of which saw water levels rising up to his chest. He also lost two motorcycles.
Muda president Syed Saddiq Abdul RahmanSyed Saddiq, who was questioned under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, along with Muda’s top leaders, urged the police not to take action against flood victims and instead target those behind environmentally destructive activities.
“What makes me angry is not about us (politicians being questioned) but when flood victims like Pak Atan are being dragged along, made to come to KL again for investigations,” said Syed Saddiq, referring to Asri by his nickname.
“He is just submitting his proposals, handing over a memorandum, so it can be raised in Parliament and further actions taken.
“The floods in Baling did not just happen once, twice, but three times in a short period of time.
“He’s (Asri) just submitting his ideas and now he is being questioned, that is not right! Leave him out!” Syed Saddiq said.

Others from Muda who were questioned by the police included party deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz and executive central committee members Nurainie Haziqah Shafii, as well as Nurafiqah Zulkifli.
The remaining individuals were Kampung Tunku assemblyperson Lim Yi Wei, Pasir Pinji assemblyperson Howard Lee Chuan How, Taman Templer assemblyperson Mohd Sany Hamzan, and student Ashraff Fahmy. - Mkini
