Armed Forces Accepts Asri Janggut S Apology
The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) have accepted Mohd Asri Hamid’s apology over the latter’s accusation that many in the police and the military do not perform their daily prayers
In a statement by MAF, Armed Forces chief Affendi Buang said Asri’s comment is unwarranted and hurtful to armed forces personnel especially those who are Muslim
“However, as human beings, we are not spared from making mistakes
“As such, MAF accepts the apology of the individual concerned that has also been published on Malaysia Muslim Consumers Association’s (PPIM) social media platforms on Aug 12
“We hope what transpired will be a lesson to all Malaysians to be always careful and sensitive in issuing their statements, opinions, or any form of commentary without references or fact that can trigger polemics,” the MAF said in a statement today
The statement also quoted a hadith on being mindful of one's words, and as well as a Quranic verse on forgiveness
It said it hopes such incidents do not recur, and the matter shall not be raised in public again to ensure that harmony is preserved
“Know that to forgive not only puts the heart of the offender at ease, but Allah will also give peace to those who forgive. Allah ennobles those who forgive others,” the MAF said
Asri, who is also known as Asri Janggut, owns the Hot Burger franchise, came into prominence after making videos alleging that authorities have failed to act against illegal gambling dens in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh
In a later video, however, Asri was seen claiming at a press conference that many police and soldiers were not fulfilling their compulsory religious obligations
For the record, Islam requires Muslims to pray five times a day
Police are investigating Asri over his remarks under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for allegedly making statements conducing public mischief, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act for allegedly abusing telecommunication services
PPIM then shared a video clip yesterday showing Asri making his apology to members of the police and the military. - Mkini
