Appellate Court Sets Oct 23 24 To Hear Rosmah S Appeal Over Graft Conviction
The Court of Appeal has set Oct 23 and 24 to hear Rosmah Mansor’s appeal to quash her conviction as well as a 10-year jail sentence and RM970 million fine over three corruption charges linked to the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project.
The court set the dates during this morning’s case management of the appeal filed by the wife of incarcerated former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
When reached out by the media, deputy public prosecutor Poh Yih Tinn confirmed the outcome of today’s case management before the appellate registry.
The Court of Appeal initially set July 11 last year to hear Rosmah’s appeal. However, the court allowed her bid to vacate the hearing date due to her then ongoing separate appeal to recuse the late former Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram from leading the prosecution against her.
However, on March 26 this year, the Federal Court binned her recusal bid - paving the way for the Court of Appeal to proceed with her solar graft appeal.
On Sept 1 2022, the Kuala Lumpur High Court found Rosmah guilty over the three charges and sentenced her to 10 years in jail and a record RM970 million fine, with an additional 30 years imprisonment if she fails to pay the fine.
However, the sentence was stayed pending her appeal before the Court of Appeal.
One charge accused Rosmah of soliciting RM187.5 million and two other counts accused her of receiving bribes of RM6.5 million from Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd’s former managing director Saidi Abang Samsuddin, through her former special officer Rizal Mansor.
It was allegedly done as an inducement to help the company secure the Hybrid Photovoltaic Solar System Integrated Project and Maintenance and Operation of Genset/Diesel for 369 rural Sarawak schools.
The trial judge also allowed her to remain out of prison on an existing RM2 million bail. - Mkini
