Anwar Threatens To Give Up Pakatan Leadership If No Confidence Motion Fails
This is Anwar’s last tango. Either next week Anwar ousts Muhyiddin or else he might as well hang up his dancing shoes. There is just so much “crying wolf” you can do. After a while, even if the wolf is really there, no one cares anymore.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
Anwar Ibrahim has four days left to get his act together. By Monday, 26th July 2021, Anwar has either enough numbers to take over as PM9 or Muhyiddin Yassin will remain as PM8 until parliament is dissolved to make way for GE15.
According to those in Anwar’s inner circle — such as Saifuddin Nasution, Johari Abdul, Dr Abdul Rahim Ghouse, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, and so on — the planned coup for next week does not look that promising any longer.
It seems Anwar’s moneymen are getting cold feet and they are worried they may be backing the wrong horse after all.
Malaysian politics is winner takes all, loser losses all. So, if they fund Anwar’s coup and it fails, they may have a very bleak future ahead of them.
The current sentiments are Anwar will have to win the fight first and then they will come in with the funding. They are not going to pour money into a losing fight resulting in the money getting burned. Investors want dividends, not losses.
Anwar’s enthusiastic bunch of funders are no longer excited about the prospects of him ousting Muhyiddin. This is because the “Kerajaan Gagal” campaign does not seem to be having the desired results. And most of the “gagal” are in the Pakatan Harapan states such as Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
If Anwar cannot get Dr Mahathir’s support then it is not going to happen
It is human nature to want to be associated with the winner. And the winner here is Muhyiddin, not Anwar. The fact that Anwar has been pulling his “I have the numbers” stunt too many times over the last 20 years, and each time it turned out to be mere cock-teasing, does not breed confidence in Anwar’s moneymen.
This is Anwar’s last tango. Either next week Anwar ousts Muhyiddin or else he might as well hang up his dancing shoes. There is just so much “crying wolf” you can do. After a while, even if the wolf is really there, no one cares anymore.
Anwar’s final attempt at saving the day is to threaten that if the no confidence motion in parliament fails next week, he will give up the leadership of Pakatan Harapan. Anwar hopes this blackmail may work and that they will support him out of fear that Muhyiddin will remain as prime minister till parliament is dissolved.
