Anwar Says Palace Statement Clearly States Govt Disrespected Royal Institution

PARLIAMENT | Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim (Harapan-Port Dickson) brought up the Istana Negara’s statement today in the Dewan Rakyat, shortly after it was released.
Anwar said the Istana Negara’s statement had stated clearly that the government led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had not only gone against the principles of the Federal Constitution, but also disrespected the royal institution.
“(The statement) also specifically stated by name that de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan had misled the House and the people,” Anwar told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He then proceeded to read out to the House the Istana Negara’s statement issued by royal comptroller Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.




The palace posted a strongly-worded statement on its official Facebook around noon today, where the Yang di-Pertuan Agong expressed he was “very disappointed” that Parliament was informed on July 26 that the emergency ordinances were revoked.
The Agong was also “very disappointed” with the conduct of Takiyuddin and Attorney-General Idrus Harun, and said the law minister’s statement on July 26 was inaccurate and had misled the MPs.
After reading out the statement in full, Anwar said the opposition has no choice but to urge Muhyiddin to resign.
“This statement clearly shows that the cabinet led by Muhyiddin has violated the constitution, insulted the constitutional monarchy institution, specifically the Agong, and this includes also the law minister who misled the House and as such lied to the House.
“We have no choice but to urge the prime minister to resign,” Anwar said.
The House immediately became chaotic with opposition lawmakers calling for Takiyuddin and Muhyiddin to resign.
Gobind Singh Deo (Harapan-Puchong) said he had filed two motions yesterday on whether Takiyuddin had misled the House, and this matter should now be prioritised in light of Istana Negara’s statement.
“I want a decision now to bring that motion forward so we can discuss it now.
“If the speaker cannot bring forward the motion then the speaker should also resign,” Gobind said to Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Rashid Hasnon, who was chairing the sitting at that time.
Eventually, Noh Omar (BN-Tanjung Karang) and Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) said the sitting should be postponed temporarily so the speaker can deliberate on his decision, as this is a serious matter involving the constitution.
“Because this is a serious and very important question, if I may suggest, when it involves something rather controversial, let us postpone the sitting first,” Noh had said.
Rashid did postpone the sitting for 15 minutes in order to deliberate on a decision but when he came back around 12.45pm, he announced the ruling will be made after lunch break, when the sitting resumes at 2.30pm.
