Anwar Says It Again Dr M And I Agree On Transition Plan
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that he and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad are in agreement over the future leadership transition
In a statement today, Anwar said speculation of a rift between the duo were fed by inaccurate reports by the press and speculation on social media
"I would like to set the record straight and reiterate that there is no issue whatsoever between Mahathir and I on the transition
"We have agreed on the process and succession plan, and this matter is also resolved within Pakatan Harapan," he said
This is the second time Anwar has spoken about his relationship with Mahathir since the duo's meeting last Wednesday
Speculation on the viability of the transition plan resurfaced after Bersatu's delegates called for Mahathir to serve a full term as prime minister
The four Harapan parties had agreed before the May 9 elections that Mahathir would serve as prime minister should they win the elections before handing over reins to Anwar. However, no date was specified for the transition. Meanwhile, Anwar said he supported Mahathir's claims that the Harapan government was a strong one
However, he said the challenges ahead were formidable and would require unity within Harapan to succeed
"We recognise there are forces which would like to see us fail," said Anwar
"I urge the leadership to be on guard against these forces that would prefer to see a resurgence of rentier culture and their attempts at hoarding the nation's wealth at the expense of social justice and the welfare of the people
"Let us march forward and do our utmost towards the realisation and fulfilment of the people's aspirations for a progressive, prosperous and peaceful Malaysia." - Mkini
