Anwar S Budget 2023 Passes With Voice Vote In Dewan Rakyat
PARLIAMENT | Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s revised Budget 2023 sailed through Dewan Rakyat today when it passed the committee stage via a majority voice vote.
Deputy speaker Alice Lau called for the voice vote at approximately 7.05pm after the Higher Education Ministry’s budget - the last ministry budget - was passed at the committee level.
After a clear vocal “setuju!” (agree) from the MPs present, Lau then proceeded to announce that the bill had been passed.
The bill, which is the first budget under Anwar’s administration, was debated at the committee stage for 10 days starting March 13.
The revised budget was tabled by Anwar, who also helms the finance portfolio, on Feb 24 with the highest allocation ever of RM386.14 billion.
It also features the nation’s largest development expenditure of RM99 billion, which is a quarter of the total budget.
It was passed at the policy stage on March 9.
According to the Parliament calendar, the meeting in the august house will resume tomorrow with other bills expected to be tabled and debated during this sitting, which ends on April 4.
