Anwar Offers Muhyiddin Suitable Role If He Cooperates With Transition
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who today claimed he has secured a simple majority in the Dewan Rakyat, said he is willing to consider a suitable role for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin if he cooperates with the transition of power.
"Muhyiddin's government has fallen and therefore he has also fallen as the prime minister.
"I invite him to cooperate. I personally have no problems with him.
"His cooperation will facilitate a peaceful and orderly transition of power.
"If he is prepared, he can serve in a suitable position," Anwar told a press conference at Le Meridien Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
Anwar today announced that he had secured a strong and formidable majority but declined to reveal the exact numbers.
The Port Dickson MP said it was only appropriate that he present the numbers to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong first.
"Conclusively, we have a strong, formidable majority. I'm not talking four, five or six.
"I'm talking about much more than that," he said.
Anwar also did not reveal the parties that will be joining his new coalition, merely stating that they comprise MPs from various parties.
Government leaders, however, have continued with their daily routine with Muhyiddin expected to speak to the nation in a televised address at 2.30pm.
There has been speculation that Muhyiddin may request a dissolution of Parliament to stave off Anwar.
However, Muhyiddin's aide told Malaysiakini that the televised address had nothing to do with Anwar's announcement.
The aide said it was coincidental because Muhyiddin was getting cabinet approval for a series of economic announcements today and would be announcing them shortly after that. - Mkini
