Anwar Ibrahim wants his party, PKR, to contest the second largest number of seats after Warisan in the Sabah State Election later this month. Anwar is saying that he wants to fight for the rights of Sabah and Sabahans.
There are three very long-outstanding issues that have been a source of frustration to Sabahans — the 1963 Malaysian Agreement (MA63), the 20-Point Agreement, and the 20% oil royalty, which Sabah has been asking for.
Anwar was in the government for 16 years from 1982 to 1998, and again, for almost two years, until February this year. He was the Finance Minister in 1991 and the Deputy Prime Minister in 1993.
What did Anwar do to resolve these three issues (MA63, the 20-Point Agreement, and the 20% oil royalty) when he had the power to do so? Anwar needs to explain this to the 1.2 million Sabah voters.
Before the 2018 general election, Pakatan Harapan promised Sabahans they would resolve these three issues. After winning the election, they said it was impossible to give Sabahans what they want.
Hence Anwar needs to state in unequivocal terms what is PKR’s stand on MA63, the 20-Point Agreement, and the 20% oil royalty. Anwar is famous for evading to answer any questions direct. He would pusing sini, pusing sana, and in the end not answer the question.
So, what is PKR’s stand on MA63, the 20-Point Agreement, and the 20% oil royalty? Answer now, before 12th September 2020, or else stay out of Sabah.

Dr Mahathir: 20% oil royalty for Sarawak, Sabah ‘really not workable’ (Bernama, 27 September 2019) – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has all but snuffed out the hope of Sarawak and Sabah to have their oil royalty raised to 20% under the Pakatan Harapan government, although this was promised in its election manifesto.
The prime minister said in a Bernama report from New York today that the government now realised that giving 20% to the two states would mean that Petronas would no longer become the international oil company that it was.
