Anwar Directs Small Projects Supervised By Pwd To Be Handed Over To Other Departments
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed small projects such as school renovations and dilapidated clinics under the supervision of the Public Works Department (PWD) to be transferred to other departments or the district offices. - BERNAMA picPUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed small projects such as school renovations and dilapidated clinics under the supervision of the Public Works Department (PWD) to be transferred to other departments or the district offices.
The Prime Minister said he will hold a meeting with all district officers next week so that they can carry out the implementation tasks involved.
"I have discussed with Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi ( Works Minister) that public works projects such as dilapidated schools and clinics, toilet repairs, no longer need to be burdened to the PWD.
"Transfer the task to other departments or the district office and God willing next week, I will meet with all the district officers to ask them to carry out the implementation tasks," he said.
He said this while speaking at the Prime Minister's monthly meeting with members of the Prime Minister's Department at the Dewan De' Seri Endon Hall, Puspanitapuri here, today.
Anwar said PWD could no longer be burdened because the department had huge responsibilities, especially involving projects such as highways and flood mitigation.
"Big projects such as highways and flood mitigation are important, but projects involving schools, toilets, drains, damaged mosque fences are also important, including the distribution of aid and that is why I have given instructions to expedite it," he said.
In the meantime, the Prime Minister wants all of the people's projects to be implemented immediately.
He said that he conveyed this to the Cabinet in addition to his discussions at the Finance Ministry and with the Chief Secretary.
"The implementation is better than the first quarter of last year, but don't use the situation during the pandemic as a yardstick.
"Therefore, I would like to urge all departments to look at what has been approved and what has started to be implemented and what has not been implemented, is it because the allocation has not arrived, or is it because it has been assigned to other ministries," he said. - NST
