(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: An MP’s aide being probed for misuse of network facilities following a tweet allegedly linking Umno Youth to a commotion at a ceramah last year is calling for the Communications and Multimedia Act to be amended.
Noor Suhana Ishak, an aide to Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman, said that their “biggest concern” was that under the Act her phone would be confiscated.
She called for the Act to be amended so that police investigations would not involve confiscating belongings such as phones.
“Our phone is one important tool for us, as an aide to a minister or MP,” she tweeted.
She also tagged communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil in her post, adding that the Communications and Multimedia Act came under the purview of Fahmi’s ministry.
Apart from Suhana, economic affairs minister Rafizi Ramli’s press secretary Farhan Iqbal is also being probed under the same Act.
Suhana believed that police would already have the screenshots of their tweets and therefore there should be no need to confiscate their phones.
The authorities could also log into their Twitter accounts when carrying out the investigation, she said.
Earlier, Suhana said both she and Farhan were being investigated for criminal defamation and misuse of network facilities.
Last year, Suhana tweeted she had “heard” that Umno Youth members had disrupted a ceramah featuring Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
The group of 30 had also allegedly revved their motorcycles and called Syed Saddiq, the Muar MP, a liar.
In videos of the incident posted on social media, police were seen blocking the group from approaching further. - FMT
