Amanah Leaders Speak Up For Opposition Mps Call For Hamzah S Ouster
Two Amanah Youth leaders have urged opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin to step down following the decision of four Perikatan Nasional MPs to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In separate statements, Amanah Youth vice-chief Ammar Atan and Kelantan Amanah Youth chief Hazmi Hassan said the quartet's decision was a result of Hamzah and PN whip Takiyuddin Hassan's failure to negotiate a deal for Putrajaya to fund opposition MPs.
Ammar said Hamzah (above) was too preoccupied with ousting Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister instead of taking care of the opposition MPs' interest.
"The fact is if (the opposition) had (accepted offers) to negotiate earlier this year, then the split in PN will not happen because Anwar is ready to work with anyone.
"Perhaps it is time for PN MPs to replace the opposition leader who is politicking 24 hours a day instead of taking care of the PN MPs' interest.
"I nominate Ketereh MP Khlir Mohd Nor, who has been very clear on this issue," said Ammar.
Rational leader needed
Similarly, Hazmi said the opposition needed someone "rational" to lead them.
"They don't need an opposition leader bent on plotting the fall of the government," he said.
Federal allocations for opposition MPs are being handled by Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof.
In April, the opposition appointed Hamzah (Larut), Takiyuddin (Kota Bharu), and Radzi Jidin (Putrajaya) to participate in negotiations.
As of Oct 10, Fadillah said he has not received any correspondence from opposition MPs to talk about federal funding.
