Airasia To Refund Customers Affected By Flight Delays
AirAsia also plans to increase the number of planes in stages by July.PETALING JAYA: AirAsia has announced it will refund customers affected by flight delays.
This was confirmed by the domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Alexander Nanta Linggi, who participated in a meeting with the top management of AirAsia, today.
“AirAsia Bhd (not AirAsiaX) will be giving out refunds to (affected) passengers,” said Nanta in a Twitter thread today.
He also said the move was among the measures being taken by the low-cost airline to resolve problems surrounding flight delays.
AirAsia also said it would be increasing the number of airplanes from 40 at present. This will be done in stages by July to cope with rising demand.
“AirAsia has also agreed to cooperate on consumer issues, and the ministry will continue to engage with the airline from time to time.
“We will improve and do better, but safety is paramount – that was the gist of today’s meeting between my ministry and the top management of AirAsia,” Nanta said.
AirAsia group executive chairman Kamarudin Meranun and AirAsia Bhd CEO Riad Asmat represented the airline in the meeting attended by Nanta, the ministry’s secretary-general Azman Mohd Yusof and deputy secretary-general Roszanina Wahab.
Previously, Nanta said his ministry would be probing the issue of flight delays faced by the airline.
AirAsia came under fire from numerous parties, especially angry customers, over several instances of flight disruptions.
The airline apologised to its customers two days ago for the inconvenience caused. On the same day, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) instructed airlines to submit their flight data in its probe on indiscriminate changes to flight schedules.
In a statement, Mavcom said it received complaints from consumers regarding flight changes without adequate notice. - FMT
