Air Selangor Sungai Semenyih Plant Cleared Bukit Tampoi Still Down
The Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant has been cleared of odour pollution and has resumed operations after sample tests.
However, Air Selangor reported that tests at its Bukit Tampoi treatment plant still show a threshold odour number (TON) of two as at 6am today, a significant improvement from the nine TON recorded at 6.30pm yesterday.
In a statement today, Air Selangor corporate communication head Elina Baseri said tests at the Sungai Semenyih plant recorded TON readings of 0 three times in a row this morning.
It will, however, take approximately 12 hours before the plant can resume supplying water to users again.
“The Sungai Semenyih plant has resumed operating its raw water pump this morning for the clean-up of raw water pipes and water treatment tanks.
“The water supply that will be distributed will go through water quality tests to ensure compliance with health ministry standards,” she said.
She added that the water supply from the Sungai Semenyih plant would be restored in stages.
Some 309,605 households in 273 areas within the districts of Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang were affected by the cuts beginning Sunday.
Yesterday Selangor State Environment, Green Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said that a major clean-up at a duck and goose farm beside Sungai Pajam in Negeri Sembilan is believed to be the source of the odour pollution.
He said that the pollution detected was from organic substances such as animal carcasses and not from petroleum.
Hee added that other sources are suspected to be from Nilai 3 Industrial Park, and he hoped the Negeri Sembilan government would take the initiative to investigate the matter. - Mkini
