Ahmad Opts Out Due To Health Amar Accepts Lineup Change In K Tan

STATE POLLS | Caretaker Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob has stated that he does not want to retain his post due to health reasons.According to The Star, the incumbent also said his old age has impacted his well-being.
"I don't want to be menteri besar because I suffered two falls recently which possibly caused a slipped disc and I also have heart problems," Ahmad (above), 73, was quoted as saying by the English daily.
Subsequently, he said he conveyed to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang early this year that his interest in the position had waned.
This came after PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan announced yesterday that the party will offer a change in the combination of menteri besar and deputy menteri besar for Kelantan.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin HassanAccording to Takiyuddin, the new leadership will comprise a religious leader and a technocrat, subject to the rakyat and Kelantan ruler’s decree.
The leadership line-up will remain the same in Kedah and Terengganu, he added.
‘If the party has decided, we must accept’
Meanwhile, caretaker Kelantan deputy menteri besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said he will accept PAS’ decision to change the state’s leadership.
"There's no issue, I started as a mere assemblyperson, and I don't mind going back to what I was before.
"If the party has decided, we must accept, because even before this, I did not ask for any positions," he told the media when met after casting his vote at Sekolah Kebangsaan Panji in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Caretaker Kelantan deputy MB Mohd Amar Nik AbdullahPrior to Ahmad’s clarification, Amar had confirmed that the former volunteered to step down from his post as a state leader.
According to him, Ahmad had voiced his intention even during the 14th general election in 2018, but Hadi convinced the former to stay on.
"There's no issue of dropping Ahmad because he had wanted to step down since GE14, but he was asked to stay.
"But this time, I think he really asked to step down and the party president agreed, taking into account Ahmad's age and health factors," Amar said. - Mkini
