Ahead Of Semenyih Polls Muhyiddin Announces Allocations For Cops

With the Semenyih by-election just over two weeks away, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today highlighted the government's efforts to improve the infrastructure and welfare of the police force
On a working visit to the General Operation Force (PGA) 4th Battalion in Semenyih today, Muhyiddin announced allocations for police in the district and neighbouring Kajang
This includes RM1.4 million for the maintenance of the Kajang police headquarters, as well as police stations in Kajang, Semenyih, Beranang and Cheras
Muhyiddin also announced allocations of RM20,000 each for the Police Family Association (Perkep) in the Kajang police headquarters and PGA Semenyih
"Before I arrived here, someone whispered in my ear that (I) should not forget about Perkep, (so the Home Ministry) approved RM20,000 for Perkep in Kajang police headquarters, and RM20,000 for Perkep in PGA Semenyih," he said
A further RM300,000 was allocated to PGA Semenyih for building, asset and ICT system maintenance, Muhyiddin added
In all, the minister pointed out, the government had approved 127 projects worth RM3.087 billion nationwide, of which RM100 million was channelled to upgrade 12,409 units in police quarters, and another RM100 million to repair 226 elevators
Muhyiddin also said the government planned to build a Special Action Unit (UTK) office beside the PGA Semenyih building, which was completed in 2011
"As for the PGA Semenyih's application for an RM13.8 million allocation to maintain and upgrade its quarters, logistics, assets and welfare, we will scrutinise the application."Muhyiddin pledged to support applications to uplift the working and living conditions of the force
'No breach of ethics'It is unclear, however, if any of the above allocations are new or were listed in the 2019 Budget
In a press conference after his visit, he did not provide a direct answer when asked if he was announcing new allocations for Semenyih – only noting that he was duty bound to go on the ground to explain Putrajaya's policies
"I don't think that I have breached any code of ethics," he said, adding that he would continue to explain government policies during the by-election campaign period
Campaigning begins after nomination day on Feb 16
A total of 54,503 voters will cast their ballots for the March 2 by-election, which includes 951 early voters and 32 overseas voters
