Activist Fahmi Reza To Be Charged In Court On Thursday
Graphic designer Fahmi Reza will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Thursday this week.
The activist’s lawyer Rajsurian Pillai confirmed that the proceeding will be conducted at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex in Jalan Duta.
“(Fahmi will be charged) on Thursday at 9am (before) MSJ4/Siber (Sessions Criminal Court 4 for cyber jurisdiction),” the lawyer said when contacted today.
However, Rajsurian declined to reveal for which alleged offence the outspoken street artist is going to be charged with.
On Jan 26, Bernama reported that Fahmi (above) was called to Bukit Aman to assist in investigations in connection with a social media post that allegedly depicted an edited image of the Pahang Coat of Arms with the words "House of Balak".
In a media statement, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Abdul Jalil Hassan had said the activist was called to have his statement recorded at the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, prosecution/legal division of the CID.
“Police are conducting an investigation in connection with the posting that was uploaded on Jan 3.
“Investigation is being carried out according to Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for acts with seditious tendency and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services,” he added.
It was reported that Fahmi’s alleged post showed a tree and two axes with the words - House of Balak (timber).
It went viral on social media following the massive flooding in December last year, in which Pahang and Selangor were the two most badly hit states. - Mkini
