Activist Celebrating Musa A Waste When Sabahans In Dire Straits
An activist from a Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) student group urged for governor Musa Aman’s birthday celebration to be cancelled.
ADSAliff Danial said public funds should be channelled towards solving problems in the state.
He condemned the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state government for spending funds on something “lavish”, calling such acts a betrayal of the people’s trust.
“How is it possible for a former leader who once faced 46 corruption charges involving timber concessions worth more than RM200 million to now be honoured lavishly using public funds?
“That money should instead be used to resolve water issues at UMS and other problems faced by the people of Sabah,” Aliff said in a statement today.

Universiti Malaysia SabahUMS students have faced a longstanding water supply issue, which reportedly includes water shortages and poor water quality.
Musa’s birthday will be celebrated on June 21 in Kota Kinabalu.
In March, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II Joachim Gunsalam said the budget for the governor’s birthday was cut by 30 percent compared to last year.
Accusations of extravagance
Commenting further, Aliff claimed GRS has made such extravagant decisions before.
“Recently, they spent almost RM4 million just for the car plate number ‘SMJ’.
“The GRS government has failed to resolve the people’s issues, but is quick to organise meaningless celebrations
“Leaders are not meant to be worshipped! They are appointed to work and serve! This foolish culture must stop!” the activist said.
Musa’s appointment as the state governor in December has been seen as controversial.
In 2018, during Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s tenure as prime minister of the Pakatan Harapan government, Musa was charged with receiving more than RM263 million in bribes in exchange for logging contracts.
However, he was later acquitted in 2020, during Muhyiddin Yassin’s tenure. - Mkini
