(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg has announced that the state will test its algae-based sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on an aircraft flying to Langkawi next Monday.
He said he would also be travelling in the aircraft.
Abang Johari said the flight will use a small amount of the SAF, which was produced through a collaborative effort between the state and its Japanese partners.

“We will develop it on a larger scale for our planes.
“This Monday, a small amount of our SAF will be tested during a flight heading to Langkawi and I will also be onboard.”
He said he was flying to attend the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition.
Abang Johari said the success of this test would lay the path for other areas in the state to venture into SAF production.
“Perhaps, Gedong can also produce this kind of fuel,” he was quoted by the Borneo Post. The Gedong district is being promoted as a hub for modern agriculture by the state government.

He said SAF could be considered as an alternative to the usual fossil jet fuel. The state aimed to be a global player in supplying sustainable fuel for airlines.
Abang Johari also said Sarawak could play a part in supporting the global movement of achieving net-zero carbon emissions with the production of SAF from the industrial cultivation of microalgae biomass. - FMT
