(PDRM pic)PETALING JAYA: The police have arrested 84 foreign women believed to be working as “guest relations officers” (GROs) in a raid on an entertainment centre in Bukit Bintang on Sunday.
In a statement, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the foreign nationals were aged between 18 and 46 years.
The police also arrested nine Malaysians involved in the management of the premises, aged between 31 and 45.
“Checks were also conducted on 22 local GROs, 46 employees of the centre and 336 customers. Preliminary urine tests found that six customers were positive for methamphetamine and ketamine,” he said.
Razarudin said the centre was found to be operating without a proper licence and had been using a restaurant or eatery licence issued by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
“They were operating as a KTV centre offering 17 karaoke rooms priced from RM3,800 to RM25,000. They also offered services by the local and foreign GROs, upon request and at specified charges,” he said.
The police also seized sales receipts, including for the services of GROs, alcohol, a mobile phone, two video recorders, a modem, a router, a loud hailer, an amplifier, two microphones and RM13,862 in cash.
Razarudin advised all entertainment centre operators to comply with the laws and regulations.
“Strict action will be taken against operators who permit illegal activities such as employing foreign GROs, prostitution, and the sale or use of drugs within their entertainment premises,” he said. - FMT
