800 Homeless In Kl To Be Offered Jobs After Mco Is Lifted
Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa says the plan will ensure that the homeless community will not have to live on the streets anymore.PUTRAJAYA: More than 800 homeless people currently placed in four community centres in Kuala Lumpur will be offered jobs once the movement control order is lifted
Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said they will be vetted and given training so that they can take up jobs as general workers by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) or production operators in factories
“After the MCO ends, we do not want them to wander in the streets anymore. We will give them two options – to take up jobs as general workers or production operators
“They are expected to start work on May 1, if the MCO does not extend beyond the end of April,” he said in a Facebook video recording
He said they will be paid between RM1,200 and RM1,400
“I have instructed DBKL to come up with this plan so that the homeless community will not have to live on the streets anymore,” he said
Annuar said the Persatuan Gurdwara Sahib Malaysia will be assisting the ministry to provide vegetarian meals for foreigners under lockdown at Selangor Mansion and Malayan Mansion on Jalan Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur
He also thanked NGOs and associations helping the government to provide basic necessities to the foreign tenants there
On a separate matter, Annuar said there are currently 12 areas in the federal territories classified as red zones (areas with more than 40 positive cases)
“We have 79 cases that were reported in Selangor Mansion, Malayan Mansion and Menara City One, all under a small area. This is a challenge but the ministry and related agencies will do our best to manage it,” he said. - FMT
