4 Umno Youth Divisions Believed Barred From Voting For Top Posts
Umno members will vote to choose three vice-presidents and 25 members of the party’s Supreme Council.PETALING JAYA: Four Umno Youth divisions are believed to be barred from voting at tomorrow’s party elections.
According to two letters posted by a Supreme Council contender, the Ampang and Wangsa Maju divisions are affected.
The Umno Youth divisions of Jempol and Titiwangsa are the other two divisions affected.
FMT is trying to obtain comments from the youth wings, as well as Umno secretary general Ahmad Maslan and information chief Isham Jalil.
The letters, posted on the Facebook page of Rafi Awg Kechik, said the heads of Umno Youth of both Ampang and Wangsa Maju divisions will not be allowed to attend tomorrow’s elections.
The 10 Umno Youth representatives from each wing will also not be allowed to attend the elections, after Umno’s election appeal committee had received objections and complaints regarding the division’s delegates meeting.
In a separate letter, Umno election committee chairman Shahrir Samad said the Jempol Umno Youth division had to hold another election for all the youth positions in the division due to irregularities in their voting process.
It also had to re-elect its 10 youth representatives.
In the Facebook post, Rafi said the same applied to the Titiwangsa Umno Youth division. However, he did not provide a letter to that effect.
Tomorrow’s Umno elections will feature contests for the three vice-presidents posts and 25 spots in the Umno Supreme Council.
Party leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his deputy Mohamad Hasan will retain Umno’s top two posts after a no-contest motion was passed for the presidency and deputy presidency at the party’s general assembly. - FMT
