1mdb Scandal Agc Finds Insufficient Evidence To Haul Zeti To Court
There is not enough evidence to file charges against former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz over the 1MDB scandal, according to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Azalina Othman Said.
This was the feedback she had received from the Attorney-General's Chambers based on statements recorded from Zeti's family by investigators probing the 1MDB scandal.
She said this in a written reply to Lim Lip Eng (Harapan-Kepong) who asked whether Zeti would be charged for allowing billions in 1MDB funds to be transferred abroad.
Zeti (above) was Bank Negara's governor from 2000 to 2016.
An estimated US$4 billion was misappropriated from 1MDB to accounts abroad from 2009 to 2014.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Azalina Othman SaidDuring that time, Zeti's husband - Tawfiq Ayman - allegedly received 1MDB-linked funds through Iron Rhapsody Ltd - a company Tawfiq and one of his sons allegedly beneficially owned.
Iron Rhapsody was then claimed to have transferred the 1MDB-linked funds to Cutting Edge Industries - which is also owned by Tawfiq and his sons, Abdul Aziz and Aliff Ayman.
Still under probe
It was reported that the Singapore Police Commercial Affairs Department had in 2015 and 2016 shared information about the transactions involving Iron Rhapsody Ltd with Bank Negara - when Zeti was still governor.
US$15.4 million in 1MDB-linked funds has since been repatriated from company accounts owned by Tawfiq and his sons.
Tawfiq and Zeti have both denied any wrongdoing in the matter.
Azalina, in her written reply, said that Tawfiq is still under investigation for alleged money laundering, while no investigation papers have been opened into Zeti herself.
However, she noted there is no statutory limit for action to be taken against any party. - Mkini
