19 Year Old Arrested For Taking Video Of Woman In Toilet In Ranau

KOTA KINABALU: A 19-year-old was detained after he was caught recording a woman with his mobile phone while she was in the toilet at a fuel station in the Ranau district, some 100km from here.
The woman, in her 30s, who was travelling with her husband to the state capital, had stopped by the station to use the restroom when the incident took place on April 29.
Ranau OCPD deputy Supt Simiun Lomudin said while in the loo, the woman noticed something moving at the top of her cubicle.
It was then, he said, the woman was shocked to find a mobile phone sticking out, seemingly recording her.
“The woman then rushed out and found the suspect filming her,” he said when contacted on Friday (May 5).
"With the help of her husband, also in his 30s, the woman apprehended the suspect and brought him to the district police station to be handed to the authorities,” he added.
DSP Simiun said the woman has lodged a police report over the matter.
The case, he said, was being probed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, for insulting the modesty of any woman by word, through sound, gesture or exhibiting any object intentionally.
The suspect was also being investigated under Section 8(1)(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance Sabah.
Towards this end, DSP Simiun advised the public to be alert to such cases in future.

He also urged the people to report such incidents or crime cases as well as road mishaps to the police for quick action. - Star
