The 4.30pm downpour, which reportedly lasted only about 15 minutes, caused severe damage to nine houses in Kampung Baru Ayer Hitam and 79 homes in Felda Lui Barat.
Sungai Lui assemblyman Datuk Mohd Razi Mohd Ali said relevant agencies are still in the process of identifying all residents affected by the incident.
Although the current count of damaged houses stands at 88, Mohd Razi said the number is expected to rise, as residents of Felda Lui Barat and its Development and Security Committee (JPKK) are still assessing the damage.
"We anticipate an increase in the number of affected homes. The JPKK is working closely with relevant agencies to determine the full extent of the damage and the total number of victims involved," he said.
Mohd Razi said affected residents have been relocated to a Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Lui Barat, which was opened at 6.45pm.
"The exact number of evacuees has yet to be confirmed, as some residents are still settling matters following the storm," he said.
In a related development, Mohd Razi said the boarding hostel at SMK Lui Barat has also been temporarily closed due to safety concerns and to make way for evacuees.
"For the time being, students will be required to commute from home for three days starting this Monday," he added. - NST
