JOHOR BAHRU: Johor police are investigating an allegation that a traffic police officer solicited and accepted money at the Johor Causeway last Thursday after a photo went viral.
Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said they are taking the allegation seriously after the photo emerged on the “Singaporean’s Guide to JB” Facebook page.
Raub said a preliminary investigation found that the alleged incident occurred between 5pm and 6pm about 500m from the Sultan Iskandar Building heading towards Singapore.
“During this time, four traffic officers were carrying out enforcement against traffic violations, particularly concerning queue-cutting, and issued 69 summonses.
“All the officers on duty have denied soliciting or accepting money, as alleged in the viral photo,” he said in a statement last night.
Raub said an investigation is ongoing to ensure that there were no criminal elements or misconduct by the officers.
He said CCTV footage is being reviewed, and police are trying to identify any witness or individual who captured the image.
He said the police will not tolerate any misconduct among their personnel. However, there has been no solid evidence to confirm the allegation.
He also warned against spreading false or unverified information that can tarnish the reputation of the police force. - FMT
