Sentinel: As a party outsider, the context of my response is based solely on what was written in this article. I know nothing beyond what has been reported. This goes to the core principle of a servant of the people who use politics as their primary means of providing said service.
One cannot assume that for every election cycle, your name would be up for nomination because your fate is determined by forces that go beyond the very constituency that you currently serve.
Dropped assemblypersons and MPs must reflect on one question when they are dropped: “Why did I join the political party in the first place? Is it to serve the people through the best means made available to me or is it for personal gain?”
BN (Umno and its allies) and Pakatan Harapan had to eat humble pie to answer the call by the Agong to serve the people. It's best that former Bagan Dalam assemblyperson Satees Muniandy remembers that.
He did an excellent job. Just continue doing it in another capacity that would ensure that come hell or high water, you will always be remembered as a servant of the people.
IndigoSwan6963: Satees is in a political party. In everyone's eyes, one sees an emperor or a leader. Whether you like it or not, no party or organisation can function without a leader. Whether he leads you into the path of heaven or hell, you need one to steer the party forward.
How one deems that it is a party of Chinese, Malays, and Indians, is to one's eyes and perception. This is life. Whether you are chosen or dropped, it is expected as the party starts to evolve. It can be for the better or for the worse. This is strategic.
The unity government comprises others, including BN. In Harapan, you have PKR and Amanah. There is no such thing as a perfect solution. Do not be a sour grape but move on and continue to support the leadership.
If you are excellent, you will command not only the respect of all, including your party members and leaders. Wherever you go, you will still harness respect and support. Move on and do your best to support the community in every way that you can.
You need not be a politician to serve. The urge to help others comes from within but for one to be able to serve, one need not be an assemblyperson to do that.
Kilimanjaro: On polling day, would I vote for PAS or Perikatan Nasional? No? Would I vote for Harapan or BN? No? Would I vote for Muda? I am not sure, but it is possible. Would I sleep at home? Maybe I would not but it is possible.
Indians should start looking at and reinforcing Muda. We have been wasting time with the DAP and PKR. Muda treats all races with more respect. In PKR, they want the numbers but pray tell me whether PKR has lifted a finger to help the Indians. It is essentially a Malay party clothed as a multiracial party.
In the DAP, it is the Chinese who decide who should be where. The Indians should throw their support behind Muda. PKR and DAP may think that the fraction of Indians would mean nothing to them. Maybe, maybe not but creating a dent in these parties is more than enough.
TTSH: According to Satees, most incumbents not selected to contest supported caretaker chief minister Chow Kon Yeow to remain in office. Strangely, before the announcement of the DAP Penang line-up, someone sent an article to me with this caption: Leaked Penang DAP candidate list shows the end of (DAP senior leader) Lim Kit Siang’s era?
I thank Satees for having served Penang. I do not know him personally so it would be unfair to pass any comment. The only doubt I have is the reason why DAP dropped him.
For example, our condominium has a security guard, from father to son. Half the time they do the disappearing act. Deliveries, couriers, and guests are at times left standing outside the gate and shouting their lungs out to be let in. Some have even resorted to climbing over the wall to enter the premises for their deliveries.
To an outsider, they appear loyal to have given a total of 50 years of service. Why not? Free lodging plus all expenses paid for on top of a good salary. The actual truth is that the management is too weak to get rid of them, out of pity.
Satees talked about China’s president Xi Jinping. Don't tell us he wants to give us India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is best to bow out gracefully because the outburst reflects very badly on him.
BobbyO: Agree. The state does not belong to Satees, as well as his state assembly position, or to his family. Some MPs and state assemblypersons continue to abuse their position, by handing down their seats to their family members.
It permanently belongs to the people. Be grateful for being given an opportunity to serve the people for five years.
If Satees is still interested in the welfare of the state and its people, there are other avenues he can seek, such as NGOs or being on the board of agencies that serve in the interest of the state.
He is talking like sour grapes, as to the fact that he was not given another opportunity. That is just politics. - Mkini
