Yakub Khan Denies Resigning From Umno Supreme Council
He said the rumours were spread by those seeking to create discord, after a report of his purported dissatisfaction with Umno’s response to political developments in Sabah.
Suara TV had reported that Yakub Khan had submitted his resignation from the Umno Supreme Council two weeks ago. (File pic)PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Yakub Khan has denied submitting his resignation as a council member, dismissing claims otherwise as baseless and intended to divide the party
Speaking to FMT, Yakub said the rumours were spread by those lacking ideas and seeking to create discord within Umno.
“That is just speculation by people who are out of ideas and want to break up Umno. I remain loyal to Umno,” he said when asked if he had submitted a resignation letter. He added Umno has a platform for negotiation to resolve any issues.
Earlier today, Suara TV had quoted sources as saying that Yakub, the Sepanggar Umno chief and Karambunai assemblyman, had submitted his resignation two weeks ago.
The report claimed the move was a sign of his dissatisfaction with how the party leadership in Kuala Lumpur was handling political cooperation discussions ahead of the upcoming Sabah elections, and alleged pressure for Sabah Umno to cooperate with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah at any cost.
Speculation intensified when Yakub was absent from the Umno Supreme Council meeting held on April 30.
However, he said: “I was with Umno president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) on the day of the meeting and I informed him I was unable to attend as I had to return to Sabah that night.” - FMT
