Why Sjkc Parents Have No Qualms Paying Extra Monthly Fees For Their Kids To Study In Air Con Classrooms
EVER wonder why certain classes in Chinese national-type primary schools (SJKC) boast air conditioning while such facility is almost non-existent in national schools? Not only that there are bound to be extra classes such as tuition, including Islamic study classes and computer classes in some SJKC schools every month.
The answer lies in the collection of “monthly fees aside from solely the annual fees” that parents are willing to fork out because they see the true value of education for their children, according to social media influencer Fakta Bukan Auta (@FaktaBukanAuta).
“Imagine that PAS leaders may call for the abolition of SJKC but PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang and many PAS MPs are sending their children/grandchildren to SJKC,” revealed Fakta Bukan Auta in a recent post on the X platform.
The eye-opener sparked by Fakta Bukan Auta has made one Malay father wondering why there was no such initiative in national schools for he does not mind digging into his pocket for that extra monthly RM10-RM30 for the comfort of his children.
Moreover, as some parents of national school pupils shared, “it has been a struggle even to collect money for installation of fans in the classrooms”.
As a father of three SJKC-going children testified, the money paid towards the extra monthly collection is worthwhile for “there is visible upgrade every year” in addition to high education and discipline standards.
A presumably Sabahan mother contended that SJKCs are smart “to search for income” which comprises yearly donation drive by pupils, special donation drive for refurbishment of school halls and school hall rental for badminton or wedding receptions.
Such mentality, according to one Malay netizen, is in stark contrast compared to Bumiputera parents who tend to expect the government to lend a helping hand. “The non-Bumiputera would always put in their own effort by assuming there is no aid forthcoming from the government,” he added.
At the end of the day, it is understandable why many politicians have no qualms sending their offsprings to SJKC although they seemingly oppose the existence of vernacular schools in the country.
