What To Do If My Netflix Got Hacked
Hi everyone! So recently my Netflix got hacked, and the worst part was, they even changed my email and password!
It all happened when one day, I received an e-mail saying that I have just changed my password (which obviously I did not), but somehow I did not take notice of it because I was busy at the moment so I did not click on the email to read it. Well, I’m telling you, everything happened really fast! The next email I received was that my email is now being changed and I was then charged RM 51 to my bank account, when I should only be paying RM 42 per month!Furious, curious, scared, frightened, you name it. Even I, myself, do not watch the ULTRA HD, and you hackers shouldn’t be entitled to get exclusive rights more than me! Then I realised, ahh probably it was those hackers who are selling Netflix at RM 10, so they had to change it to ULTRA HD so that 4 users can use it at the same time compared to STANDARD HD which can only have 2 users at a time. Clever yet annoying!
So I searched online on what to do when if Netflix is being hacked, but to no avail! Most of the answers posted online said to "Change password", but how am I supposed to change my password when my email is already changed?!!!!!
So what to do when your Netflix account is hacked and the email and password is changed?
1) Call Netflix Toll Free Line
Go to Netflix Help Center website or click here :https://help.netflix.com/en/
Scroll down until you see the word "call us"
Click on "CALL US" and you will receive a code. Use this code when you call Netflix for a faster service. Seriously, it is useful!
2) Once a Representative Pick Up, Tell Exactly What Happened
Tell them that your Netflix is being hacked, and your email is changed. They will ask for your email that is hacked.
3) Change the Password as you Speak to the Representative
I was actually surprised that they were able to retrieve the email so fast (within a few minutes of talking to the representative) and she asked me to take any device and to change the password immediately while the phone is still on-call.
(Of course you don't have to say the password out loud to her)
So I quickly grab my ipad and quickly changed the password.
Within a few seconds, I received this e-mail and tadaaa everything is done!
For most of you, it will definitely end there, once the password is changed, you're good to go!
But just in case, and to be secured, I requested them to close down that account so that I can make a new account instead (and to enjoy Netflix 30 days for free! haha just kidding!)
So yeah, my account is cancelled now and currently I have a new account. So I tried to login to my old account and yes it has already been cancelled, all done within a few minutes call! Well done Netflix!
4) Get Refunds within 2-3 Days of Working Days
A few minutes later, I received an email that the RM 51 will be refunded to my account within 2-3 days.
Thank God they are able to refund the money. Good Job Netflix! However, I do hope that you can tighten up the security or something so that the hackers can't easily access our Netflix accounts!
How to Know if My Account is Hacked?
1) Go to your Netflix Account Setting
2) Click recent device streaming activity
3) See if there is any suspicious activity going on. If you're living in Malaysia, and suddenly your activity is in Morocco, than someone must have hacked your account!
So, there you go, if your account is being hacked, don't be afraid to call Netflix! Besides, it's free! All the best!
