Top Glove Closes 16 Factories Commits To Containing Covid 19
Top Glove Corporation Bhd has temporarily shut down 16 of its 28 factories in Klang since Nov 17, the same day the government placed its workers' dormitories under an enhanced movement control order (MCO).
In a statement this evening, the world's largest rubber glove manufacturer pledged to play its part to contain the outbreak that spread at its dormitories and among workers.
This came after Putrajaya instructed Top Glove to close all of its 28 factories in Klang in stages following 1,067 of its workers testing positive for Covid-19 yesterday alone.
The Top Glove-linked Teratai cluster saw 1,511 new cases today, making Selangor the state with the highest number of Covid-19 cases.
"Top Glove wishes to assure our stakeholders that we are fully committed to doing our part to help prevent the further spread of Covid-19 while also supporting the needs of our customers, employees, business partners and the communities we serve.
"We are working closely with relevant authorities with regard to our manufacturing facilities in Meru, Klang, as well as to conduct the screening of our workforce in our factories there," the glove maker said.
Apart from temporarily halting production in 16 of its facilities in Meru, the company said the remaining 12 were operating at a much-reduced capacity.
"We expect delays in some deliveries by about two to four weeks, as well as a longer lead time for orders," it said, adding that it estimated a possible 3 percent impact on projected annual sales for the financial year 2021.
Top Glove aims to minimise the impact on its customers by allocating sales orders to unaffected factories and rescheduling deliveries, it said.
"We wish to assure our customers that we are working closely with the authorities through this period towards ensuring the continued safety and well-being of our employees and the local community, which remains our utmost priority," the manufacturer added. - Mkini
