Tok Mat Slams Pn For Permanent Black Mark In Eo Revocation
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said the secrecy behind the revocation of the emergency ordinances shows ‘a blatant disregard for His Majesty and his powers’.PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) shock withdrawal of the emergency ordinances without royal consent is unparliamentary and unconstitutional and has tainted the sanctity of Parliament, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said.
In a statement this evening, he also said it has put the honour and nobility of the royal institution in a negative light.
He joined the chorus of critics calling for all those involved to take responsibility and resign immediately.
“The sanctity of Parliament has been tainted by this irresponsible action.
“This episode has put a permanent black mark in the history of Malaysian parliamentary democracy,” he said.
Earlier today, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong said he had not consented to the revocation of the emergency ordinances, as announced by law minister Takiyuddin Hassan on Monday.
“The King stresses that the minister’s statement in Parliament on July 26 is inaccurate and misled the members of the Dewan Rakyat,” Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said in a statement today.
He added that the King was aggrieved by Takiyuddin’s statement on Monday since he had yet to consent to the revocation.
Subsequently, the Dewan Rakyat sitting was suspended four times before it was eventually adjourned at 5.30pm.
Deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon said this was due to the ongoing Covid-19 testing on all MPs and staff, which had detected two positive cases. Another two cases were identified from the testing that started at 3.30pm.
Mohamad also said the King’s official statement had exposed the secrecy behind the revocation of the emergency ordinances, calling it “a blatant disregard for His Majesty and his powers”.
Other Umno leaders, such as former prime minister and Pekan MP Najib Razak and party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, have also called for the resignation of prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin after today’s events. - FMT
