Tok Mat I Ve Never Asked Rantau Voters To Repay Me For Past Deeds
SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Rantau polls, denied that he had asked voters to repay him for past deeds.
The former Negri Sembilan mentri besar said during campaigning, he had merely asked them to help him win the by-election.
"I have never asked anyone to repay me for my past deeds. I have only asked voters to help me by voting for me.
"Perhaps the Pakatan Harapan leader who accused me of asking people to repay me for my past deeds has not been raised to be grateful to others," said Mohamad on Sunday (April 7).
He said this in response to PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar, alleging that Mohamad has been asking Rantau voters to vote for him, in return for what he has done for them when he was the mentri besar before the last general election.
Mohamad is the incumbent state assemblyman of Rantau for the past three terms, and was the mentri besar before Pakatan took over the state government.
Shamsul reportedly said on Saturday (April 6) that Mohamad had gone against the Malay norms by asking people to be grateful for people's deeds.
According to Mohamad, many have volunteered to help him in his campaign on their own accord.
"You can see by the various shades of blue of the Barisan Nasional flags. I have not sponsored those. These were put up by people on their own, because they remember what Barisan had done for them.
"I only asked people to vote for me. Shamsul obviously was not raised to be grateful to others," claimed Mohamad.
Mohamad is contesting the Rantau by-election against Pakatan's Dr S. Streram of PKR, and independents Mohd Nor Yassin and R. Malar.
The Rantau polls will be held on April 13. - Star
