Toddler Needs Funds For Heart Surgery

Muhammad Danish Iskandar, who turns three this month, has seen more than his fair share of doctors.
Diagnosed with jaundice as a newborn, Danish’s doctor noticed that his heartbeat was irregular after being placed in an incubator.


At five days old, further checks revealed a heart ailment — perimembranous ventricular septal defect (VSD) — more commonly known as hole in the heart.
“Ever since he was diagnosed, we have been taking Danish to Hospital Teluk Intan for a check-up every three months, ” said his mother, Sazliana Che Sharif, 33.
“Doctors told us that the hole might close by itself, but the chances were not high.
“During a check-up earlier this year, a doctor said his condition had deteriorated.
“After being referred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in June, we realised the severity of his condition.”
To correct his congenital heart condition, Danish will need to undergo a ventricular septal defect closure surgery, which will cost RM43,000 including convalescence expenses.
“Despite his condition, Danish looks like any other active little boy.
“His cheerful personality brings joy to the family, but lately he has been getting tired easily.
“We are worried about his health but we cannot afford the surgery, ” said Sazliana.
Danish’s father Kama Azmin Kamaruzaman, 35, is a freelance wireman and the sole breadwinner of the family while Sazliana is a full-time homemaker taking care of Danish and her three other schoolgoing children aged 11 to 15.
To help make ends meet, the couple also operates a booth selling antique items at Bazaar Karat Teluk Intan every Sunday.
“Our combined income is badly affected during the movement control order.
“We would greatly appreciate any assistance to help make our son’s surgery possible, ” Sazliana pleaded.
Star Foundation’s Medical Fund Programme is helping to raise funds for Danish’s surgery and treatment at IJN.
Excess donations will be used for the next eligible patient.

Donations can also be made via cheque, credit or debit card.
To get a tax exemption receipt, donors need to fill in the Medical Fund-Donation Form available on the website.
